Why a Postpartum Doula Matters
When I gave birth at home in South Africa, I felt fit but utterly exhausted. The moment my doula and midwife left, it was just my husband and me—overwhelmed, sleep-deprived, and unprepared for the realities of those first days. My husband returned to work the next day, and I was left juggling everything alone, surviving on peanut butter.
Looking back, I wish I’d had a postpartum doula—someone to care for me while I cared for my baby. Someone to bring meals, run errands, hold the baby so I could shower, or simply listen as I processed the life-changing journey of becoming a mother.
No mother should have to do it all alone, especially far from home and family. That’s why I’m here—to support you in those precious, challenging early days, so you can focus on what truly matters: bonding with your baby and embracing your new role.

FAQ
Have a question?
-
A postpartum doula is there to mother the mother—offering emotional, physical, and practical support as you recover from birth and adjust to life with your baby. At Land of Mothers, postpartum care is about nurturing, slowing down, and honoring this transition. I provide hands-on newborn care guidance, support your healing with rebozo and restorative rituals, and help create a calm and nourishing space where you can settle into motherhood feeling held and supported.
-
You can hire a postpartum doula at any time—during pregnancy or after birth—but planning ahead allows us to shape the support that best fits your needs. If you are birthing away from family, hiring a doula during pregnancy ensures that when the time comes, you already have a steady presence to hold you in those early, tender weeks.

Every family is unique, and so is the support I offer. Some days, it may be about caring for you—preparing nourishing meals, offering rebozo wrapping for comfort, or simply listening as you process your birth. Other times, it’s practical guidance—helping with newborn care, breastfeeding, or adjusting to new routines. I also support partners and siblings in their transition, ensuring that everyone in your home feels grounded and connected during this time of change.
-
The right doula feels like home. Someone who sees you, understands your values, and holds space for your needs. I encourage you to meet with different doulas, ask about their philosophy, and trust how you feel in their presence. Do they listen? Do they make you feel safe? Finding the right doula is about finding someone who aligns with your vision for this sacred time.

A Kraamzorg is a specific type of postpartum care in the Netherlands that provides medical and practical support after birth, focusing on the mother’s physical recovery and newborn care. They typically assist with breastfeeding, check the baby’s health, and help with household chores.
A postpartum doula, on the other hand, offers more emotional and holistic support, focusing on nurturing the mother’s emotional well-being, helping with baby care, and providing practical assistance (like meal prep or running errands). A doula’s role is less clinical and more about empowering the mother through the early days of parenthood.
-
A postpartum doula focuses on supporting the entire family during the early postpartum period, especially the birthing parent, by providing emotional care, practical help, and guidance on newborn care. A nanny, on the other hand, is typically hired for ongoing childcare and primarily focuses on the baby or children, often without the family-centered support a doula provides.

I usually work during the day, but I can adjust my schedule occasionally depending on my family needs. We’ll work together to find times that suit you and your family, whether it's during the day, evenings, or even overnight.

In the Netherlands, postpartum doula services are generally not covered by basic health insurance. However, some complementary insurance policies may offer reimbursement for certain types of doula support. It’s a good idea to check with your insurance provider to see if they offer coverage for postpartum doula services under any additional plans or wellness packages.
